This year the Bailey House is proud to announce that the organization raised more than a half million dollars at the 29th Annual Bailey House Gala & Auction. This marks the most successful Gala & Auction since February 28, 2008, prior to the stock market crash. The annual benefit event supports Bailey House’s more than 30-year mission to provide housing and vital services, including care coordination, mental health and substance use treatment, for people with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses.

The success of the evening was marked by the celebratory warmth of the sold-out Gala Awards Dinner for 241 guests, with awards honoring the heroism of individuals and allies who work to further and fulfill the Bailey House mission. The dinner was followed by a festive and colorful Live and Silent Auction that welcomed just over 400 attendees.

The evening was hosted by Alan Cumming, Tony Award-winning stage, television and film actor and New York Times best-selling author. Cumming was joined by Michael Friedman, historian for Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet, who served as auctioneer for the evening.

Below is the format for 2017 Bailey House Awards:

Gina Quattrochi Arts & Legacy Award – Presented to David France & Jonathan Starch for their long-time support of Bailey House and on-going work to amplify LGBT equality efforts, especially for people affected by HIV/AIDS. France is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and New York Times best-selling author of How to Survive a Plague, as well as an award-winning investigative journalist. Starch is the longtime Executive Producer of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”  The award was presented by Tony Award-nominated stage and television actor, singer and voice artist Raúl Esparza. In 2017, the Arts and Legacy Award was renamed in memory of Quattrochi, the late Bailey House CEO who passed away in December 2016.

Rodger McFarlane Social Justice Award – Presented to Patricia M. Evert, a committed fundraiser and philanthropic advisor who has been responsible for raising more than $250 million for LGBT, HIV/AIDS, political and social rights movements. The award was present by Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Rodger McFarlane Youth Activist Award – Presented to LaQwanna Finkley, a junior at Lehman College, for her work to engage and empower disadvantaged youth, particularly women of color, as a leader of community health education and job readiness programs. The award was presented by Jeanette Ruffins, Bailey House Senior Vice President of Housing Resources and Development, and Jon Sands, who leads the Bailey House client poetry group.

The Gala Dinner was followed by the famous Bailey House Live and Silent Auction. Auction highlights included stunning works by legendary photographers Robert Mapplethorpe and Herb Ritts; a Bruce Sargent portrait sitting; two Air France Business Class tickets coupled with a three-night stay in Paris at La Maison, Champs-Elysées in a couture suite designed by fashion house Maison Margiela; an evening with New York Giants All-American quarterback Eli Manning, to name just a handful.

The Silent Auction featured nearly 450 items, including art, home design, fashion, restaurant and entertainment items. Four special home décor vignettes were curated by media sponsor NYC&G (New York Cottages and Gardens) presented by Baker Furniture; the New York Metro Chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers); ATG Stores, the home furnishing company, represented by Creative Director Alexa Hampton and President Michelle Newberry; the New York Chapter of IDS IMPACT (Interior Design Society); and the New York Metro Chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). The vignettes were created under the creative direction of leading interior designers including: Robin Baron, Kara Mann, Drew McGukin, David Santiago and others.

Through generous sponsorships, celebrity support and phenomenal auction items, Bailey House has raised nearly $20 million since its inaugural Auction. All proceeds from the event go directly to providing housing and supportive services for Bailey House clients – formerly homeless and low-income men, women, children, veterans and LGBTQ youth living with or at high risk of HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses.

Long Islanders attended the The Breast Of Everything, the10th Anniversary Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research, Awareness & Education on Friday May 13, 2016 at their new venue, The Melville Marriott.  Supporters and guests experienced casino & shopping night, amazing vendors, door prizes, great raffle baskets and grand prizes.

The Breast of Everything began as a simple fundraiser and has become a way to educate people about breast cancer research. Their 2014 event raised over $24K.  In 2015 it topped over $34,000 and this year they are hoping to surpass that

In 2006, The Breast of Everything℠ began as a simple fundraiser, in Roberta's house, because Roberta Perry and Michelle Tucker of ScrubzBody Natural Skin Care wanted to donate to breast cancer research. They created a scent called Breast of Everything, which donates 50% of all sales to The WTFC.

When Shari Goldsmith of The WTFC.Org joined the fund raising effort in 2010, the annual event moved to the The Hamlet of Old Oyster Bay, in Plainview and grew to over 300 in attendance. Incredible donations were raffled off and everyone shopped the wares of the 40+ vendors. 2011 and 2012 were also held at the Hamlet and were big success years for the event, as well. Over $20K was raised both years.

I sat down with all three women and discussed their journey with this very important cause.  The founder of The 501(c)(3)WTFC,  Shari Goldsmith revealed her special story.

http://www.thewtfc.org/ is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization donating 100% of their proceeds to breast cancer research foundations.

The first Annual Island Gift of Life Summer Soirée took place on Saturday, August 15th, 2015 from 4- 7pm at the Ram’s Head Inn in Shelter Island Heights, NY. The event presented a delightful night of shopping with J.McLaughlin, live music by Erich Collins Carey Constituency, light bites and cocktails while benefiting The Island Gift of Life Foundation, a Shelter Island nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life of patients suffering from life-threatening illnesses through financial support and services.

The Island Gift of Life Foundation began as the dream of an island resident, Cheryl Hannabury, who had battled Non-Hodgkins Lympoma for many years. Her hope was to develop an organization that would assist families with the un-insured expenses incurred while treating the disease as well as for the collateral expenses incurred such as travel, lodging, etc. of the family & support team. It was also her hope to increase the awareness of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, as well as the importance of increasing the bone-marrow donor registry for this disease.

In February of 2001 the Foundation became a non-profit organization after many generous donations were made to the Foundation. At this time the Island Gift of Life held a blood /bone marrow drive with the intent to add to the bone marrow donor registry and possibly find a match for Cheryl. The program was so successful that 100 people were added to the registry. Unfortunately Cheryl succumbed to the disease despite all efforts to save her. But her dream continues today with the present activities of the Foundation she inspired.

The Island Gift of Life Foundation is a non-profit, 501c(3) charity that provides financial assistance and other related services to people with life threatening illnesses who reside in the townships on the East End of Long Island, NY. Island Gift is completely donor funded and our volunteer board members provide all services free of charge. Therefore the bulk of donated funds go directly to the patients.

On August 8, 2015 Designer Victor de Souza and  retail store Space 16 held a cocktail party benefit for The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children celebrating 140 years of protecting and healing children and families from trauma, abuse and neglect.

The event was hosted by The NYSPCC Board Member, Penny Grant, M.D.and pediatrician.   Ten percent of all sales will benefit The NYSPCC.

During the event I sat down with Dr. Grant as we discussed the long legacy of NYSPCC.org

The mission of The NYSPCC is to respond to the complex needs of abused and neglected children, and those involved in their care, by providing best practice counseling, legal, and educational services. Through research, communications and training initiatives, the organization works to expand these programs to prevent abuse and help more children heal

.
It was a bang of a birthday party in Southampton on Friday July 17, 2015 at Space 16 Boutique as celebrity guests and notable chic personalities attended Humanitarian Sara Herbert Galloway’s Birthday party. Guests were enjoying light faire and champagne while shopping at the upscale boutique and enjoying the event.

I invited Opera Star Cristina Fontanelli to sing Happy Birthday to Sara. While guest were entertained by Cristina’s magnificent opera voice, they brought out the sparklers to each guest and as the firecrackers and sparklers lit Cristina sang her rendition of Happy Birthday. As Cristina sang her last high note, the fire alarms went off. The room rapidly filled up with smoke and almost caused a fire leaving guests choking for air.

Everyone left the establishment in a hurry. Thank goodness no one was hurt! The Fire Dept. was notified and a squad of cops pulled up to Space Sixteen Boutique where the upscale chic birthday party was being held. After everything calmed down the party resumed and guests enjoyed champagne and birthday cake. Nothing phases celebrities in Southampton.

The story even made Page Six of The New York Post.

Bailey Houses Gala and Auction was held at the Chelsea Piers on March 26 2015.

The event celebrated the heroism of individuals and organizations that assists the Bailey House’s mission of transforming the lives of people with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses through housing, health services and community.

Many came to give their support including the cast of B.O.R.N. To Style from the FYI network.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Cast members Brandon Hood and Devin Stokes.  During the evening I also spoke to TV Personality Ted Allen and News Anchor Jane Pauley who have to come to Bailey House Auction and Gala for many years.

Bailey House’s mission is to help transform the lives of people with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses through housing, health services and community support.

They believe that housing and healthcare are human rights. The organization works towards a world without poverty, homelessness, hunger, HIV/AIDS or other chronic illnesses.

In 1983, a group of visionary and compassionate men and women organized the nation’s first response to homelessness among men living with AIDS.

Starting with just a few apartments in Chelsea and Greenwich Village, they created the AIDS Resource Center. Continuing to advocate on behalf of homeless, with the support of the Koch and Cuomo administrations they opened Bailey House, the nation’s first congregate residence for people living with HIV/AIDS. Its visible presence on the corner of Christopher Street and the West Side Highway in Greenwich Village marked a significant milestone—it was the first time that any agency publicly acknowledged and funded a program that addressed poverty and homelessness among people with AIDS. Stable, supportive housing became a demand of AIDS activists in New York City and around the nation.

In 1986, we opened Bailey-Holt House, the nation’s first congregate residence for people living with AIDS. It provided tangible proof that stable housing helps people living with AIDS survive. As treatments evolved and the perception of AIDS changed from a death sentence to a serious, but manageable chronic illness we continued to add new programs and innovate new models of housing.
