Hello Darlings, Welcome Back to Cognac's Corner Magazine

Stylist Patricia Parenti attends Coterie

Both women's trade shows are part of UBM Fashion Group and were held simultaneously at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, February 27 - March 1, 2017. The first photo above is me walking in the lobby. The other three photos were from Coterie for Fall 2017. The shows took place right after New York Fashion Week with many of the designers showing on the catwalk for editorial and at the trade shows for the buyers. Let's bring back the late 1970's Yves Saint Laurent peasant look being the prevailing trend that I saw at Coterie. Skirts were fuller and longer and many had ruffles at the bottom. Blouses were King with voluminous sleeves, self tying bows and ruffles in cotton or silk. Fur was flying all over with many accessories in bright colors. Black lace was shown in all different style dresses and blouses. Pants are high waisted with big bell bottoms. Colors are muted and in earth tones.

The rest of my blog is about Edit which is a section geared to more tailored and dressy womenswear. These fashions are for a woman who wants to dress up in sophisticated clothes that she can wear to a corporate office, to a black tie event or a daytime Bridal Shower/Wedding. These are classic clothes that can last a lifetime because they won't go in and out of fashion.

A well constructed tailored dress line inspired by the 1960's and 1970's. A made in New York City collection of stretch polyester crepe and silk fabric that stretches with your body. The first three photos are to show you how to take a dress from the office to dinner by wearing a shawl to cover up at work but showing your beautiful back at an office cocktail reception. Ladies these are the dressy daytime clothes you need for daytime weddings, bridal showers, graduations, bar mitzvahs, mother's day, luncheons, theatre, ballet, opera, polo matches and derby horse races. The signature dress in the photos has lots of darts that are used in the dresses to flatter every figure with snap closures in the back which make it easy to get in and out of yourself. Inside tags have inspirational lyrics which are free to download by musician Anthony Viscounte. All the sheath dresses have slits in them for easy walking. Other style dresses are fit and flare which flatter a woman with wide hips, empire waist which hides a big tummy, and bell sleeves that don't show flabby upper arms. Colors are two tone, pastels and brights in sizes 0-12 and they fit true to size. When you go to the website you will also see a collection for bridesmaids and white dresses for a bride that wants to be able to wear her wedding dress again. Retail prices $260.00 - $375.00 and can be ordered on WWW.CAMILYNBETH.COM

The designer Glaucia told me that the brand means a mash up of the words philosophy and f'ee - meaning fairy in French. This line of feminine evening dresses with matching coats and jackets is just what I feel every woman needs to go out in at night to cocktail parties, black tie events and evening weddings. Many venues are overly air conditioned so having a matching jacket for your dress saves you from freezing while still looking pretty and well dressed. Living in NYC I go out to cocktail events all the time with the owner (Cognac Wellerlane) of the blog I write for and in Spring and Fall you need a coat to go over a dress without sleeves for the night air is chilly. Besides being beautiful and easy to wear for their fit and flare shape all the dresses have pockets on the sides to stick your tissue or hands in. Fabrics used are Italian wools and heavy stretch satins that hold their shape. Notice the heavy duty metal back zipper in photo two? That is used for strength on a fitted waist dress so the zipper doesn't break like with those cheesy plastic zippers on most evening dresses especially when you have to zip it up and down yourself. A perfect collection for the petite girl which includes me so I think I might be getting a coat and dress for myself! Sizes are 0 -12 and there is a size chart online with measurements so you won't have to second guess your size. Retail prices $400.00 - $650.00. To order WWW.PHILOSOFEE.COM

STACI SNIDER represented by CFD CRESCALA Fashion Development

Staci is a designer whom works heavily with original inspiration from the pulse on pop culture. The intricate designs and detailing of her collection work perfect with the strong and sensual fabrics that she uses such as leather, Ponte Silk and faux fur. In the past she was a professional athlete so that comes thru in her clothing which is designed for the women of today that are on the move all day. You will find a sense of freedom and movement in her full skirts. Her silhouettes are tailored to be deconstructed, soft and sophisticated not hard and edgy. This collection has a 1980's feel to it in my opinion with the main color being black and all the styles having a fuller cut. This designer has complete control because she makes all her own patterns and samples with the production being done right here in NYC. Her target market is for a woman 45 and above that wants clothes which aren't tight fitting but not so roomy that her figure is totally hidden underneath. It's an advanced contemporary collection in sizes 2 -14,  priced $295.00 - $995.00 at retail and can be ordered at WWW.STACISNIDER.COM

LANDERO by ROBERT BERRY represented by CFD CRESCALA Fashion Development
CFD Crescala Fashion Development is a NYC Garment Center organization that helps up and coming designers with production, guidance and showroom/trade show representation. Robert is in the emerging designers classification but this designer has many years of experience designing ladies clothing. He uses Italian fabrics in fine wools and silk ponti knit but designs his own prints and his collection is made in NYC. His prints are influenced by different artists and this season it's Calder and last season it was Matisse. His collection is taken from the past and he updates the look (mainly 1960's) especially with the color blocking dress on the model that is influenced by a dress called the Mondrian by Yves Saint Laurent. I was drawn to his collection initially because of the coats and a great wool coat is very hard to find anymore in stores. The clothes cater toward an executive/professional woman who works in the arts or creative field. When designing he thinks about catering to females with many body shapes meaning a woman with curves not a young model who has a stick figure. All his samples are fitted on a live fit model for a perfect fit every time. Sizes 0 - 16 with retail prices $500.00 - $2,000.00. To find stores/websites selling his fashions contact the showroom CFD CRESCALA, Phone 646-912-9292 WWW.CRESCALA.COM or to see more styles in the collection WWW.ROBERTBERRYDESIGN.COM.
