Hello Darlings Welcome Back to Cognac's Corner Magazine

MRKET AND VANGUARD GALLERY

I had the pleasure of covering these men's trade shows showing Fall 2017 newest looks with up and coming designers along with established designers held at the Javits Center in NYC, January 23-25, 2017. MRKET show features mainly tailored and classic menswear for the traditional man while VANGUARD GALLERY showcases new and emerging designers. Both shows cater toward the better to designer price market. Special sections (photos above) included Made In Italy , Brits in New York (haberdashery made in England), and Move (active wear). Some of the trends I saw at the shows were slim fitting jackets and pants continuing, colorful leather accessories, scarves, ties and pocket hankies. Overcoats that are double breasted and knee length.  Cuffed straight leg jeans that fit at the waist. Pants stop at the ankle to show colorful socks with tie shoes. BANVARD & JAMES

This line is from England. Alex and Toby Hudson are the brothers/designers whom I met at MRKET Show. Their line features bright and colorful belts, pocket squares, umbrellas, scarves, shoelaces, wallets, key throbs, card cases, portfolio/laptop cases all made from Italian leather. I even got to open up an umbrella and found them to be lightweight and very sturdy because of  a double canopy featuring a bright color on the inside and gray on the outside. Hand woven belts have brass buckles.  In the middle photo above are 100% cashmere scarves in a basketweave fabric and silk shantung scarves in muted stripes. Ombre silk pocket squares have hand rolled edges and are made in England. The small leather goods are a dark color on the outside with a flash of a bright color on the inside. All these accessories make beautiful gifts for the man who craves luxury!  They are shipped in beautiful heavy cardboard boxes with the leather goods enclosed in heavy cotton canvas dust bags. Prices range from $4.50 for a pair of colorful waxed shoelaces to $450.00 for a Crawford Briefcase. You can order everything off their website and all is shipped from England. MICHAEL KAYE CRAVATE

Everything by this ladies gown couture designer is handmade in NYC's garment center. I just loved the wax castes tie pins with rhinestone skulls, staghorns in antique gold and silver, fox heads with semi precious stones, and colored skulls on chains so much that I asked Michael who was an exhibitor at Vanguard Gallery to make these in hat pins for me. These are beautiful and whimsical pieces of jewelry to show off on your tie. Prices are $60.00 - $125.00.  The colored skull heads also come on key chains. Liberty cotton print fabrics come in a array of colors for bow ties, ties, pocket squares, some belts and key chains. Since Mr. Kaye had so much fabric ( he uses such rich and expensive Scottish tartan plaids and Harris Tweed wools all from Scotland) left after cutting his couture gowns he decided to make men's accessories out of it. His 100% iridescent silk taffeta pocket squares come in every color of the rainbow, and have dimpled corners. Another great accessory to top off your new suit is flower lapel pins which are all the rage right now. Other prices are ties - $75.00 - $125.00, pocket squares -  $45.00, belts - $125.00, and bow ties - $75.00. Great accessories for your new Spring suit to order off his website and shipped from NYC. F.H.WADSWORTH NYC

Another made in the USA collection. This is a small collection of ribbon belts for the preppy guy to wear with his khakis and jeans. The leather tabs on both ends of the belt come in dark brown, luggage and navy. The D rings and buckles are in silver and gold tone metal. The reason I felt that these ribbon belts were of better quality than most I see is because the have an extra middle layer of stiffening so that they cinch the waist of your pants better. All the belts are shipped for free and come in a beautiful gift box pictured above. Prices are $99.00 for a ribbon belt and $59.00 for a tab belt. Order at WWW.FHWADSWORTH.COM

GRAF VON FABER-CASTELL  -  Photos and Article by Patricia Ann Parenti

We all know I still love to write letters and cards by hand using a fancy pen so when I saw these luxurious pens and pencils at the MRKET show I just had to find out more about this brand. This brand is a 9th generation family owned business made in Germany that started in 1761. They invented the #2 pencil and is the oldest writing instrument company in the world.  The pencils come in a regular style made of Californian cedar wood with a replaceable end eraser, a protective cap in platinum plated or sterling silver so you don't break the point  and a sharpener that is attached to the pencil itself and are shown in a box in the first photo above. They also make mechanical pencils that are perfect for sketching. The pens all come in roller ball, ballpoint and fountain styles that twist on and off and have pocket clips. All pens/mechanical pencils have refills that can be ordered when the ink runs out.  The fountain pens come in nib widths (ink part of pen) narrow to wide.  I tried the pens and pencils and am heavy handed when writing but never broke the lead of the pencil nor made a mess with the fountain pen so that shows you the great quality right there. When you take these fine writing instruments out of your pocket or purse it shows you have class and beautiful taste. When you buy the pens individually they come in a gift box so these make the ultimate and luxurious business gift for men or women because who doesn't like to sign documents in front of other business associates with a beautiful pen!  To read more about this company and see all the different styles available to order go to WWW.FABER-CASTELL.COM, You can also buy a wide range of styles at one of the oldest pen stores in America - The Fountain Pen Hospital, 10 Warren Street in NYC, NY, Phone 800-253-7367
