This past weekend I caught up with Celebrity Vocal Coach and Recording Artist Samantha Cole. On Friday, July 29th, Samantha hosted a variety show at Manna Restaurant in Water Mill, New York. Ms. Cole works with up to 40 students at a time to prepare them for future songwriting and singing careers. The variety show at Manna featured five to six of Samantha’s top students performing live acoustic sets outside in the courtyard “under the stars” at Manna Restaurant.
Celebrated Chef Marco Barrila creates a multi-regional array of traditional, rustic dishes that change seasonally and focus on local farm-to-table, as well as imported Italian products. The menu includes signature dishes like eggplant timbal, grilled octopus with chimichurri, lobster risotto and truffled veal chops.
Chef Barrila emphasizes the authenticity of his dishes. "Everyone is so excited about farm-to-table in this country, but in Europe it is the norm". No matter the region of cuisine, Chef Barrila gives his customers an authentic experience.
Manna offers fine dining in a chic, yet comfortable atmosphere. Walls are adorned with organic 3 dimensional Hampton landscapes by local artist Gil Ferrer.
Open year round, enjoy dining by the fire place in the winter and al fresco seating during the summer. Manna's courtyard terrace can also be booked for private and semi-private gatherings in secluded setting for up to 200 guests.
So naturally Manna was the perfect setting for a variety show.
A native from Southampton, Samantha has been on hiatus for a while from recording albums to raise a family in Connecticut, New York.
Ms. Cole grew up in Southampton, New York. At the age of 15, Cole began taking vocal lessons and landed a number of singing engagements in New York. Cole made more than thiry appearances (and one performance) on MTV's The Grind, and became a regular performer at Tatou in New York City. Through these appearances, Cole was discovered by Universal Music's Doug Morris and Daniel Glass, and promptly signed to Universal Records.
Samantha's eponymous debut album was released in 1997. Cole co-wrote eight songs on the album, which included an impressive roster of all-star producers including: David Foster, Nile Rodgers, Richard Marx, Rhett Lawrence, and Diane Warren. Samantha Cole's debut single "Happy With You" peaked at #78 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her follow-up single, "Without You", failed to chart. The song was covered by American Idol stars Kimberley Locke and Clay Aiken in 2004 and went to #1 in Asia. The song is featured on Locke's album, One Love. Cole went on to release her last single from her debut album, "You Light Up My Life", in the UK in 1997.
In 2001, Cole was featured on the single "Luv Me Luv Me", by Jamaican reggae singer Shaggy. She was brought in to rerecord Janet Jackson's vocals because Jackson had chosen not to allow Shaggy to use her vocals in the song. Her version of the single with Shaggy did not peak on any chart in the USA, but did peak at #5 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2002, Cole teamed up with Shaggy for the second time for the song "Bring It To Me", that was featured on the Dark Angel soundtrack.
In 2005, Cole released a cover version of Animotion's 1985 hit, "Obsession". The song charted high on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and gained radio airplay.
Since releasing "Obsession", she has remained a staple of New York City discothèque club scene, regularly performing to sold out crowds. Cole has also modeled and has appeared in layouts for FHM and Loaded.
Cole has also dabbled in acting, appearing in an episode of HBO's Sex and the City, the WE network reality show, Single In the Hamptons, and the Damon Dash's 2003 film, Death of a Dynasty. Samantha was also casted as a Judge on The Voice in 2014 and is currently holding auditions.
She continues to teach promising young singers and songwriters on how to have a successful career in show business and resides in Conneticut with her family and also Southampton, New York.
"I may come out with yet another album," she excitedly reveals.
