Stylist Patricia Parenti Poses for a Photo-op at Sole Commerce and Coterie Trade Show

Sole Commerce and Coterie

A trade show that is part of Coterie ( which is part of UBM Advanstar group of shows) that provides designer and international shoe and boot brands access to the fashion marketplace that connects with buyers of women's high end retailers. The designers I interviewed at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, NYC in September 2015 showed a combination of Winter and Spring 2016 styles. I chose designers to interview that had styles that me being a shoe lover could not find in stores in my area. Some special features in the collections that I liked were comfortable walking shoes that weren't flat and hand beaded cocktail shoes. Trends for the upcoming seasons in shoes are single soles, metallic accents, color blocking, perforated leather, chunky heels, oval toes, wedges and beading on satin pumps.  Many of the shoe styles can be ordered off the designers websites but if you don't see them then contact the designers and tell you saw a photo of their creations on my blog.

These shoes have a patented comfort system as shown in the first photo above and are meant to be comfortable from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The reason that they are comfortable is they have an ortholite memory foam insole.  Now that is my kind of shoe since I walk lots in NYC. This means no toe box pinching, no ache under the arch of the foot and no irritation of any kind to your feet period but you will feel fine standing in them. These are great styles to wear with skirts and dresses with textured hose. The shoes and booties are all leather and retail from $400.00 - $600.00 and remember since they feel so good on you will wear them lots so you'll get your money's worth. The collection is part of the big shoe company Seychelles Imports. or

Another collection I tested (meaning tried on) and found to be very comfortable. This designer has a background in dance and wanted to make shoes that incorporated the features of dance shoes for the urban woman. She was interested in shoes that withstood the wear and tear of the city streets and I'm sure all of us that do lots of city walking would like also. Some special features are solid wood heels, ethically sourced leather, elongated toe box that allows for feet to fit in box comfortably and not have feet jammed up against the vamp of the shoe (which is very important if your feet are on the wider side such as mine), and padded insole. The styles are classic with a twist with such details as color blocking and perforated leather. All are made in Brazil and retails $120.00 to $260.00.

This is another "fashion comfort"brand. I'm modeling the shoes in the photos above so you know these wedges fit a fuller foot like mine very well. So if your feet are wide like mine this is the brand for you to wear. The collection is all leather that has cork wedges that are medium high so they are not straining your foot because they don't have a steep incline in the foot bed. Some details are hand finishing in burnished and distressed metallic and smooth leather with an emphasis on natural tones. The company started in Israel and has been in the USA ten years. Price range $179.00 - $299.00. or

These 100% Italian silk satin over leather evening shoes are custom made in New York City and beaded with Swarovski crystals, glass beads and southeast pearls (each shoe may include up to 2,000 beads) in Malaysia. First the beading is put on the satin and then the fabric is sent to NYC. Don't these beautiful shoes scream Cognac Wellerlane the talk show hostess whose blog I write for about fashion trade shows. These are totally red carpet shoes meant to be worn with dresses that are no longer than top of the ankle so you can see the beading down the back of the shoes. Want to be noticed on that step and repeat then these are the perfect shoes for doing so. Styles range from classic pumps, ankle straps sandals, mary janes and kitten heel pumps. These shoes can be custom made and come in such luscious colors as mint, coral, lilac, baby blue, light pink, yellow, black and steel gray. Sizes are from 4 - 12 1/2 with prices $500.00 -$1,000.00.
