Art Southampton is by far the best art fair in the Hamptons with an appeal for the serious rich and famous international art collectors.  On opening night, the fair was crowded with art buyers and the elite fashionable crowd of designer labled champagne-twirling Hamptonites. There were over two thousand individuals that attended one of the biggest events in the Hamptons.
I of course was attracted to several art galleries and booths diplaying various items of expensive artwork.I was attracted to K+Y Contemporary Art Gallery from Paris, France and spoke to Director Yann Bombard who described Artist Cecile Plaisance's art work.K+Y is an art gallery founded in 2012 dedicated to a contemporary program that now represents more than a dozen emerging and mid-career international artists.
The gallery is based in Paris in 8th arrondissement, in the heart of the 'Triangle d'Or' close to the Place of the Elysees, the Champs Elysees and the lovely PArc Monceau. Their program embraces artworks across all media including paintings, sculptures and photos. Since the gallery has been established they launched several eclectic group shows or providing solo-shows. Since it sinception, the gallery has been part of major international art fairs to promote its artists and K+Y gallery's vision is to sustain the artists' freedom of expression by exhibiting them in a setting that is fertile for both the artist and the collector alike. Thoughout our exhibitions and participations in more than 10 art fairs per year our artists enjoy an audience of international collectors. Some of them has been selected to Biennale or has been bought by prestigious private collections, American Art Centre and museums. The beginning started with a doll, an icone of fashion and beauty…The biggest names in fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin, Christian Lacroix, Chantal Thomas and many others, paid tribute to her.Her compositions of Barbies where already the stars in her first snapshots. To make life more light hearted, a reminder of the innocence of our childhoods, of all the little girls who relentlessly dressed and undressed this doll …bringing those soft, innocent memories back to life.
I also found Lyric Writer for Elton John, Bernie Taupin's Artwork quite interesting. The English musician is also a visual artist and showed his artwork at the Borghi Gallery. Mr. Borghi’s fair booth featured "Plain Brown Wrapper," new works in a variety of colors and formats with a long list of materials such as twine, wax, house paint, stencils, wood, and nails. The gallery show is cast as a retrospective, with 16 older works that have more historical references. The artist became an admirer of the work of Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, and Clifford Still in the 1970s from his explorations at the Museum of Modern Art. He has been painting in a style that borrows from Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art since the early 1990s in a studio in Santa Barbara County in California.
I also was fascinated with Artist Jerome Lucani artwork of French Film Star Bridget Bardot. During our interview he revealed their were 700 photos within the master photo of French Actress Bridget Bardot.Born in Marseille in 1974, Jerome Lucani challenges the liminality of photography, creating artworks that defy the temporality of the singular image. Using glaze, lacquer, resin, and mosaic techniques, Lucani reveals the narrative hidden underneath the photographic moment.Lucani's most well-known series, ICONS, is made from compositions of hundred of images relating to his subjects, revealing an entire narrative within one single art work. By capturing the portrait of his subjects with layers of related and biographical images, Lucani is able to explore both the past and the present in each work, representing the soul of his subjects by exploring the subjective entirety of their lives. This timeless vision has led him to portray such iconic figures as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Queen Elisabeth, Kate Moss, Abraham Lincoln, Johnny Cash, Albert Einstein, and many others. In his latest body of work artist explores how art is present in nature and, subsequently, can be a form of inspiration to us all. Lucani has a penchant for revealing the narrative hidden underneath the artistic moment, and has not held back on his subliminal messages in his new pieces. The artist is aware of the destruction of biodiversity, and has chosen to use beauty as a means to transcend language, and communicate how contemporary society takes advantage of the beauty in nature around us. The entire exhibition has been particularly influenced by coral reef life, and each piece will be named after the living thing that it is envisioned on.The artist hopes that the audience will be able to value the potential to cherish this source of natural inspiration. Lucani argues that we have been desensitized to the natural elements around us and hopes that, through his vision, the audience will be inspired by the beauty that is present in nature.
I also taked to Artists Charlotte Filbert and her husband Benjamin Rollins Caldwell who featured their artwork at ArtSouthamptonBenjamin Rollins Caldwell was born September 12, 1983 and is an American artist best known for his one-of-a kind pieces and custom projects that use everyday objects and materials to create unique pieces of furniture. He lives in Inman, South Carolina and owns a studio called BRC Designs.Benjamin gained notoriety in 2013 for his Binary Collection that debuted at Lady Gaga’s artRave alongside artists Jeff Koons and Marina Abramovic. Haus of Gaga has used Benjamin Rollins Caldwell’s Binary Chair as part of Lady Gaga’s marketing efforts for her ArtPop album tour. Lady Gaga uses the Binary Chair as a symbol of the singer’s campaign for a collision of the art pop-music worlds. The Binary Chair and Lady Gaga first appeared on her social media on July 26, 2013. Lady Gaga debuted the chair on the set of Good Morning America in August 2013.Benjamin Rollins Caldwell married Charlotte Whitaker Filbert in May 2013 in a private ceremony at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.Benjamin Rollins Caldwell opened his studio, BRC Designs, in January 2009 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was here at BRC Designs, that Ben released his first piece of furniture the suspended Birdseye Bed. Soon followed his first furniture line that included the Dueces Wild Chair, which really put Caldwell into the spotlight. Caldwell showcased his Binary Collection at Design Miami during Art Basel in December 2013.
I also had a chance to talk to Julia Wehkamp from One Art Nation.
