Board members and supporters attended the 2nd Anniversary of the North Shore Historical Museum on January 31, 2015.

The year 2007 celebrated the centennial of their home, the Justices Court Building in Glen Cove. Sterling Glen of Glen Cove has donated this historic building to the North Shore Historical Museum and the exterior renovation of the building has begun. The Courthouse, built in 1907, is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places and is the ideal permanent home for the North Shore Historical Museum. Their plans are to fully restore this building, which has been vacant for over 10 years, and to preserve a piece of North Shore history for the future.

With a well-deserved thank you to NSHM President Brian Mercadante for 15 years of leadership, the Museum welcomed members, friends, supporters and dignitaries to celebrate two years since their opening in January 2013. Board Member Victoria Crosby composed and recited a poem in honor of the Brian's service.

In 1997 Brian Mercadante had an epiphany,
a brilliant idea, a concept most thrilling.
So he went to the Mayor to ask if he was willing to allow him to create a museum in the crumbling old courthouse which was an eye sore, and nobody used it anymore. Brian was VP of the BID at the time, and he thought that to demolish the historic courthouse would be a crime.  The building had been neglected and was in a terrible state, but with Brian’s vision, it was not too late to preserve and restore to its original glory, yet how to raise the money was another story.

With members of the BID a board was created.
From New York State a charter was obtained,
now all that remained was the grant writing and fund raising.

How it was accomplished is really quite amazing.  With an evolving board and many fundraising events under Brian’s leadership there were many accomplishments.

Now after all these years of hard work the museum finally opened two years ago, and so board members congratulate him for all his years of dedication.

President - Georgie Connett is now the new President of the North Shore Historical Museum.  Georgie started  on February 1, 2014.
