Hello darlings, Welcome back to Cognac's Corner Magazine
I caught up with Actors Sienna Miller and Toby Jones who are both starring in HBO's "The Girl."
Alfred Hitchcock is not only perhaps the most famous film director of all time, creator of such classics as VERTIGO and PSYCHO, but among the most controversial, plagued for years with accusations about his personal treatment of his frequently blonde leading ladies. THE GIRL stars Toby Jones as Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as actress Tippi Hedren, delineating their on- and off-set relationship while filming the seminal horror film, THE BIRDS. Director Julian Jarrold stages the filming of many of THE BIRD’s most famous sequences with wit and flair, and the central performances of Jones and Miller dig into the lives and personas of two icons of cinema in this penetrating docudrama.
Later I chatted with Actor Alan Cumming about his new film "Any Day Now" at the Baume & Mercier Party.
Based on true events and anchored by moving performances, ANY DAY NOW stars Alan Cumming as Rudy, an aspiring singer and part-time drag queen in 1970s Los Angeles. Rudy discovers his drug-addicted neighbor routinely abandons her teenage son with Down syndrome, Marco (Isaac Leyva). After finding Marco alone on the streets, Rudy and his new partner Paul, a closeted District Attorney (Garret Dillahunt), bring Marco home, and the three become a loving, stable family. When authorities discover Rudy and Paul are gay, they must battle a prejudiced judicial system to adopt the boy they now consider their son.
A true, and utterly charming, chameleon, Alan Cumming is a force to be reckoned with in any medium. Groomed on the London stage, Cumming’s diverse and acclaimed resume spans Hollywood and independent features such as EMMA, ROMY AND MICHELE’S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, X2: X MEN UNITED, the SPY KIDS Trilogy, TITUS, and THE ANNIVERSARY PARTY (which he also wrote and directed with Jennifer Jason Leigh); Broadway with CABARET (Tony Award) and THE THREEPENNY OPERA; and television with his Emmy®-nominated turn as Eli Gold on CBS’s THE GOOD WIFE.
At the Baume & Mercier event I had the pleasure of interviewing HIFF's premiere sponsor Rudy Chavez, President of Baume & Mercier North America.
In 1830 the Baume family opened one of the first comptoirs horlogers (watch shops) in the Swiss Jura region in the village of Les Bois. “Frères Baume” soon became a major watch company, thanks to the commercial flair and rigorous industrial methods of the two brothers, Louis-Victor and Joseph-Célestin Baume, who strictly followed their motto: “Accept only perfection. Only manufacture watches of the highest quality.”
In 2002, Baume & Mercier took a further step towards autonomy by opening its own workshops in Les Brenets, in the Swiss Jura.
This represented a genuine return to roots in more then one way: a return to production in the Jura, the cradle of the Baume company (although the Baume & Mercier headquarters remained in Geneva), and a return to a production mode known as établissage (or project management) and used by the “Frères Baume” throughout the 19th century, but combined with a full set of modern advantages.
The company continued along its successful path with new models such as Classima Executives, Diamant, iléa, as well as the Haute Horlogerie William Baume collections, and a number of sporting and sophisticated models interpreted in Riviera or Hampton versions.
Loyal as ever to its origins, Baume & Mercier continues to offer a range of authentic timepieces with a contemporary feel, that embody the attention to detail, the high quality standards, and the respect for the rules of fine craftsmanship on which the company has built its international reputation since 1830.
Their new advertising campaign features time captures special moments.
Shot in The Hamptons with real families, the Baume & Mercier campaign is composed of six visuals that are instant snapshots of daily life.
Expressing a lifestyle spirit and created to convey authenticity, the families radiate an aura of genuine emotions and a vibrant sense of real-life moments bearing the unmistakable Baume & Mercier signature.
