Copperwheat Spring 2012
I had the pleasure of interviewing the design team of Copperwheat.us Designers Ben and Lee Copperwheat whose designs are original, avante garde and innovative as the designers themselves.
Lee Copperwheat studied tailoring and design at the London College of Fashion and has an impressive history as a UK fashion designer – most notably for his partnership with Pamela Blundell on the Copperwheat Blundell label. Their early awards included the 1995 British Fashion Council Young Designer of the Year. Lee also taught Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins School of Art and the Royal College of Art, both in London. Lee moved to the USA in 2001 and has worked with Miguel Adrover – launching his menswear line – and as a freelance tailor with Sue Stemp, Victoria Bartlett (VPL), Stephen Burrows, Marc Jacobs, Edun, Maria Cornejo and Coach.
Ben Copperwheat graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2001 with a Masters Degree in Printed Textiles. After working freelance for Isabella Blow and Gucci and lecturing in Textiles at Northumbria University in the UK, in 2003 Ben moved to New York. He became Senior Print Designer for Calvin Klein Jeans, while collaborating with Peter Som, Stephen Burrows, Daryl K, Sue Stemp, Frank Tell, Victorinox Swiss Army and Tommy Hilfiger.
