Artist Steven Katzman's work exhibiting at Masters & Pelavin Art Gallery at 13 Jay Street in Tribeca, New York.

Steven Katzman is a self-learned photographer who has combined over the years his long-time interest in political science through his photographic journey. Mr. Katzman does not work from anyone's theories on the appropriate direction for contemporary art. Most of his photographs exemplify the post modernist notion that to be relevant to the final quarter of the 20th century art needs to be political in nature. Katzman is, however, an artist, not a propagandist. Consequently, his images are not overtly political. His art fans and viewers must take time to contemplate about each photograph to arrive at its ultimate message.
Like his forerunners, Jacob Riis, Lewis Hines, and Dorthea Lange, Katzman presents beautifully crafted, matter-of-fact images of his subjects. His series of photographs goes beyond the parameters of photo-journalism. His work can be particularly upsetting, riveting and disturbing perhaps even shocking. Katzman's goal is never to merely shock, rather to make his viewers think about the image and answer specific questions in his or her mind: Who is the person in the photograph? What is their life like? How do you feel about the issues being raised?
You can enjoy his works from January 5th, 2012 through February 18th, 2012 at the Master & Pelavin Gallery.

Scott Hewett - Rugosa Restaurant

On September 1st Scott Hewett and Rugosa Restaurant hosted Artist Scott Hewett's latest art work entitled "Scott Hewett Fine Art Presents Realism with a Pop."

Scott Hewett, originally from Bradford, Massachusetts, moved to Sag Harbor in 1998 to pursue a lifelong passion in art. He holds a BFA with honors from Massachusetts College of Art and has won several awards including the Tom O’Hara Award for Illustration.

For Scott, the eastern end of Long Island offers an incredible variety of scenes and subject matter. He has embraced the area — from the farms, to the wooded areas, to the coast and the harbors, the lifestyle and especially the unique Long Island “light” — and renders his subjects into vividly colorful paintings. A local landscape, a rusted old truck or a still life painting of everyday objects like a peeled orange or crayon box, transports the ordinary into art. Most incredible is the large-scale size depictions of his subjects.

Scott has shown in group and solo shows at many local galleries. His work is in many private collections.  He is also a Member of the Artists Alliance of East Hampton.

Hello darlings, welcome back to Cognac's Corner Magazine and my next fabulous Art Opening in the Hamptons.

Galleria Della Lupa opened its doors to  Art Enthusiasts Friday, August 26 before an impending hurricane.

Giancarlo Impiglia creations of fine art incorporate historical references in his lively compositions. The distinguished artist has been painting as far back as the 1970's and his collection stands on the shoulders of the Italian futurists, recalls the flourishes of Art Nouveau, celebrates the curving geometry of Art Deco and integrates the concept of Cubism.

Giancarlo's stylized figures inhabit a unique world of his own art creations. Impiglia's animation permeates his work. His collection is a series of movement and social commentary; it is rich in observation. There is an absolute wit in his expression of art in how individuals move and dress and interrelate in our society today in the modern world.

Giancarlo is a true maximalist and his work "speaks" to art enthusiasts who love his bold interpretations. His art is exciting, vibrant, bold, international, cosmopolitan and very sexy.
His fabulous new gallery located at 150 Main Street in Sag Harbor showcases his elegant art work. The gallery has quietly opened its doors. Owner/Director Nina Frand was always fascinated with Italian culture and spent several years living in the eternal city of Rome.

Artist and Filmmaker Josef Schoeffman poses for a photo-op with TV Host Cognac Wellerlane at the Art opening "Limits and Desperate" at the Gail Schoentag Gallery in Sag Harbor

On Saturday August 13, 2011 The Gail Schoentag Gallery located at 112 Hampton Street in Sag Harbor presented “Limits and Desperate."  The reception  and Launch party featured the contemporary works of Eric Decastro, Florian Heinke, Nathalie Grenzhaeuser, Bjorn Melhus, Clare Langan, Yves Netzhammer, Anke Roehrscheid & Josef Schoeffman while guest conversed about art over cocktails & hors d'oeuvres.

The exhibit will be running through September 20, 2011.

The Gail Schoentag Gallery opened its doors to the public in July 2011.  The gallery provides a home for original fine art to both established and emerging collectors.  The venue also plays host to special events in support of fine art organizations which foster awareness of both social and environmental issues. Founder Gail Schoentag recently left the corporate world to pursue her love and passion for art full time.  Having been inspired by art since a very early age, Schoentag was determined to open a gallery to raise awareness for contemporary art and artists.  Gail fell in love with the beauty and ethos of Sag Harbor’s art community, which made it the ideal location to fulfill this dream.
